In october last year, Freebridge Community Housing and the Hemingway team began their search for the right architects to transform Hillington Square in King's Lynn. Now that we have entered 2011, and all interested parties will have made themselves known, a shortlist of architects is being prepared. Once the designs have been narrowed down, Freebridge Community Housing will work with local residents to decide which idea is best suited for the redevelopment of the area. The final decision on which architectural practice will continue forward with the redevelopment is expected to be made in early spring. If you wish to follow the developments of the project regular updates are available on the Hillington Square Redevelopment website.

the people decide...in attleborough
A questionnaire has been published to collect the views of local residents in Attleborough and Snetterton to see how the area should develop new homes and services. Breckland Council want to build 4,000 new homes south of Attleborough by 2026 creating 2,000 new jobs. The development would also include a new road link and Snetterton Health, all part of a 50 acre employment space. The proposal would help relieve the 3,000 people currently on the housing waiting list and allow for the required development of the town's infrastructure. Adrian Stasiak from the council claims they "have the opportunity to make Attleborough bigger and better".
Questionnaires for residents in the local area can be downloaded from the Breckland Consultant page.

anglia square, norwich
Revamped plans by Centenary Ashcroft for Norwich's Anglia Square are soon to be considered. The £100m project is set to begin next year and will start with the demolition of the current multi-storey car park. The site will provide 200,000 square feet of retail space, including a major foodstore, and additional room for a hotel and further leisure facilities. The developers have also included 178 new homes of which 51 will be affordable housing.
The scheme will offer great employment opportunities for the northern area of the city and a much more attractive environment for those living in the region. If the application is successful, discussions will then focus on the improvement of the local transport infrastructure, developments of green space on Leonard Street and the renovation of St Augustine's Memorial Hall.
A public exhibition of the new proposal is being held next week to gather information and opinions on the design before the plans are submitted to Norwich City Council. For information on the exhibition please visit Calvert Square.

norwich open academy
On Thursday 9th September 2010 the new Open Academy in Norwich was opened for all. The twenty-million pound project was designed by Sheppard Robson Architects and built by Kier Education for the Norfolk County Council.
The 9,000 metre-squared development is centred around a 3-storey Open Forum which is surrounded by a number of learning zones that provide space for up to 950 students. The structure is made up of a five-ply cross laminated timber system which allowed for quick construction and the supply from sustainable forests gives the building a low carbon footprint. The outer perimeter of the curved plan contains the main teaching spaces in order to take advantage of natural light, ventilation and views. The inner space acts as the buildings circulation route.
The new academy replaces the original 1960's Heartsease High School to create a 'vibrant, attractive and stimulating learning environment' for all its pupils.
For more information please visit the Open Academy website where you can find a useful video of the build and a number of drawings to show the design concept.

new fakenham medical practice
The new practice in Fakenham has recently been given the go-ahead and work has got underway to prepare the site. The new, modern, purpose-built surgery is scheduled to open in mid-Summer 2011 and will be spread over three floors. Below is an impression of the new build.
The surgery will be the first building on the proposed site but intends to be the catalyst for substantial residential and other development in the area. The building will offer a large spacious waiting and reception area, GP and nurse consulting rooms, a dispensary, pharmacy and the required space for administrative tasks. There will also be extensive space for car parking and the site will be well served by public bus services.
The new medical practice will provide a substantial base of community care for the Fakenham area. For more information on the progress of the new build please visit: Fakenham Medical Practice

welcome...
Welcome to my blog! I have recently completed three years at De Montfort University studying Architectural Studies and I am now looking to enter into the world of architecture. This blog will look at the development of architecture throughout the county of norfolk, of where I live, and see how it is keeping up with new architecture across the world. I hope you all enjoy the blog and I welcome any comments and suggestions that will help improve the page.
